Last week Tanner and I go our hands on a brand new iPhone 6 back casing shipped straight from Apple’s supply chain in China. We unboxed it, shared our insight on the back indicator light and now decided to put it to the test. Starting with the iPhone 4 many people complained that Apple’s products were too scratch prone and looked terrible after a few weeks of use. The iPhone 4, 4S, 5 and 5S all have the a similar design which is why they all responded pretty similar when it came to these torture tests. The iPhone 6, however, features a totally different design which many people believe looks more like the current generation iPod Touch.
A simple drop of both of the devices indicated that the metal used scuffs in a similar manner and led us to hypothesize that the devices would scratch similar to each other. That being said, the iPhone 6 features new antenna bands that cover a significant part of the back of the iPhone. After completing the test it became evident that the iPhone 6 itself remains very scratch resistant in every area except the antenna. The antenna shows a darker plastic when scratched which remains visible after cleaning. While it wouldn’t be easy to scratch given that its on the middle of the back, it poses a weak spot when it comes to the knife in our test. Make sure to see the whole video featured above.
