Nintendo Finally Bringing Their Classics To The iPhone & Android

maxresdefault (6)

Recently, Nintendo made a much waited for announcement stating that they will be partnering with DeNA a billion dollar mobile game development company to expand their reach to the smart phone. They boasted that the 3DS has been wildly  successful over the last few years as some games have sold millions of copies.

Nintendo stated that this expansion will be a supplement to their already strong console market and made for their existing fans. They will also keep a strong focus on console gaming as it brings in an incredible amount of revenue.

Now that we have decided how we will make use of smart devices, we have come to hold an even stronger passion and vision for the dedicated video game system business than ever before.”

— Nintendo President Satoru Iwata

Nintendo then when on to state that they will be making their games more connected between consoles. While this sounds good in theory if done well it will surely hurt their sales. They also had a strong emphasis on the fact that existing games will not be ported instead built from the ground up using Nintendo IP.

The current mobile game market has dictated the way companies monetize games, and to compete Nintendo will most likely have to use in app purchases and other spammy marketing strategies to pull in money.

They are off to what most people would believe was a not so good start with their first candy crush resembling game.
